12 days ICSSR-Funded Capacity Building Programme
for budding Social-Science Faculty
Introduction:
The intricate tapestry of human society is undeniably woven from the complex interplay
of social interactions, cultural nuances, and economic realities. Social sciences offer a
powerful lens through which to examine these multifaceted forces. By delving into
human behaviour, societal structures, and historical patterns, these disciplines equip us
with the critical thinking, research skills, and empathy needed to tackle today's complex
challenges.
Social sciences are the foundation for informed decision-making and effective policy.
From government offices to corporate boardrooms, insights from sociology,
anthropology, economics, political science, and psychology are indispensable. By
unravelling the complexities of human relationships, social institutions, and cultural
dynamics, social scientists contribute significantly to policies that promote social
justice, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability.
The discipline's relevance extends far beyond borders. In our interconnected world,
grappling with issues like climate change, migration, and globalization, social sciences
provide essential frameworks for understanding and responding to these complexities.
To effectively address the challenges of a rapidly changing world, social science faculty
must stay updated on the latest theories, methods, and technologies. The 12-day capacity
building program is a crucial step in this direction. By exposing faculty to India's diverse
challenges including statistical tools for policymaking, the country's growth
conundrum, and the interplay of society, culture, and sustainability the program aims to
equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to drive positive change, so that
development results in a harmonious coexistence between humanity and the planet, with
culture serving as a bridge, not a barrier.
