Industrial Economics

Earlier focus on industrial economics (regional variations, multi-national corporations, technology, industrial structure) is being carried forward currently through studies on understanding state-wise export performance and internationalization of Indian firm.

FDI decision of Indian firm, factors contributing to multinational growth of firm and outward FDI impacts on Indian economy, besides knowledge on globalization of India's knowledge- based industries from a regional perspective have been focused. Other issues currently studied are:

  • Technology diffusion, development of rural enterprises in a regional framework, and the linkages between dispersed urbanization and rural industrialization.
  • Analysis of Indian manufacturing sector in light of trade liberalization, economic growth and environmental externalities.
  • Land acquisition process for industrial growth and its socio-economic impact on rural population.
  • The work done during the last few years on India and Central Asia cooperation is proposed to be continued. The institute also focuses on energy security and has recently contributed a study on the structure of the oil-refining industries and the performance of the public sector oil refining companies in the context of change in the regime governing refineries.
